Job Description

Career Opportunity:

Applications are being accepted by the City of Las Vegas for the position of architectural project manager. This position prepares and manages the city's on-site five-year capital improvement programme, coordinates programmes and projects with other city departments and outside agencies, and offers highly responsible staff assistance to the designated division manager or section supervisor. It also coordinates programmes and projects with other city departments and outside agencies.


Supervision Received And Exercised

Receives broad guidance from management employees at a higher level.

acts in the capacity of a formal supervisor, exerting direct supervision, which includes making hiring decisions, keeping track of and formally evaluating employee performance, and taking part in employee reprimands and terminations.


Examination Process

According to the city of Las Vegas's civil service regulations, a civil service examination will be held. The test is the supplementary questions. False information may lead to removal from a City employment or disqualification from a recruitment process. After the deadline, more information won't be accepted. The applicant must work alone on the additional questions, which are weighted 100% for inclusion on an eligible list. All qualified applicants' supplemental questionnaires will be examined to determine who should be added to an eligible list.


Eligiblity Criteria 

To be listed as eligible, you must receive a test score of at least 70%. The eligible list is valid for a period of six months after certification and may be kept in place for up to two years.  


Selection Process:

List placement and a recruiting interview (if necessary) are both included in the final applicant selection process. Some positions may require preliminary background checks. Any applicant will be expected to successfully complete a background check, submit to a pre-employment drug test, and may be asked to demonstrate their ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.  


Note: Due to an increase in the NVPERS contribution, employee pay rates will be lowered by 1.875% starting with the pay period that begins on July 23, 2023. 


Example Of Duties


Essential Functions:

  • Encourages and supports the division's goals, objectives, policies, and procedures in their implementation. aids in the creation and submission of business plan metrics on an annual basis. creates and delivers monthly performance reports and statistics. Implements approved policies and procedures as recommended.
  • Assigns work activities, projects, and programmes; supervises work flow; assesses and evaluates work outputs, methods, and processes; coordinates and administers numerous city architectural programmes and projects; interacts with personnel to identify requirements and address difficulties.
  • participates in the creation and upkeep of city design guidelines that are used for all newly constructed and renovated facilities.
  • Establishes and evaluates acceptable performance standards in accordance with departmental goals while supervising selected project staff, including training, overseeing work, and defining performance standards. may aid in choosing job candidates and take part in interviewing candidates.
  • Prepares, reviews, and approves project programmes, site analyses, budgets, architectural plans, specifications, and cost estimates; supervises and reviews production drawings and documents created by architectural consultants and in-house designers; and ensures that project specifications and deliverables comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Performs professional consultant due diligence and makes recommendations. Reviewing proposal submissions and company credentials. Facilitating, negotiating, and creating contractual agreements.
  • finds chances to enhance service delivery practises and processes, discusses findings with the proper management employees, and puts improvements into practise.
  • acts as the point of contact for allocated initiatives with other city departments, divisions, the general public, and outside organisations. participates in numerous committees and task groups on behalf of the division. receives and handles delicate, difficult topics. handles queries and grievances in a prompt, effective manner from the beginning to the conclusion.

  • oversees and approves assigned project budgets, which includes keeping an eye on financial transactions, outlays, and early detection and reporting of any budget overruns and variations. creates reports on both actual and anticipated spending.


Minimum Requirements List


Experience: One year of increasingly responsible (post license) professional architectural experience.

Training: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in architecture or a closely related field.

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid driver's license on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter. 

Possession of an appropriate, valid certificate of registration as a professional architect in any state on the date of application, and acquisition of certification as a professional architect in the state of Nevada within six months of the date of appointment, and maintenance thereafter.
